On May 6, Morocco summoned its ambassador to Berlin, Zohour Alaoui, due to “Germany’s negative position” on the Sahara issue and the “attempt to exclude Rabat from regional meetings on Libya”.
Two months before the ambassador’s summons, Morocco announced at the beginning of March that it had severed relations with the German embassy in the capital Rabat, due to “deep differences on crucial issues”, which did not exist. been clarified at that time.
According to the parliamentary report, efforts must be made to re-establish relations between the two countries, according to a logic that respects clarity and reciprocity.
The minister affirmed, during the presentation of the draft Budget of his ministry for the year 2022, that the relations of the Kingdom with the European countries had known, in 2021, a remarkable evolution, according to the same source.
Bourita also estimated that the Kingdom’s contacts established with European partners during 2021 had allowed an overall reassessment of bilateral relations with most European countries, with a view to the post-Covid-19 phase.
The Kingdom of Morocco has positively maintained its trade with its various European partners, betting on the confidence it enjoys as a distinguished economic partner of the European Union (EU).
Rabat insists on its right to the Sahara region and offers extended autonomy under its sovereignty, while the “Polisario Front” calls for a self-determination referendum, a proposal supported by Algeria, which welcomes refugees from the region.
