On a working visit to Tokyo as part of the launch of the “Morocco Now” brand, the Moroccan delegation, led by Mohcine Jazouli, Minister Delegate in charge of Investment, Convergence and the Evaluation of Public Policies, observed the enthusiasm and sustained interest of private operators, agencies and Japanese institutions for the economic potential of Morocco, now perceived as a privileged destination for the development of their investments and their commercial exchanges in the region.
Organized by the Moroccan Agency for the Development of Investments and Exports (AMDIE) with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Morocco in Japan, this visit was, in particular, the opportunity to meet more than twenty economic leaders in business sectors as diverse as automotive, aeronautics, agri-food, textiles, tourism, renewable energies and infrastructure.
All unanimously hailed the socio-economic progress of Morocco, its political stability and the leadership of King Mohammed VI, which made it possible to position Morocco as a priority destination for the development and diversification of Japanese investments but also as a regional platform for the development of their exports to Europe and Africa in particular.
The Moroccan delegation was also able to observe the alignment of objectives between Morocco and Japan to facilitate the energy transition of their respective economies through the development of renewable energies, an area where the Kingdom is cited as a “regional champion” thanks to the royal vision.ย
The Japanese institutions met, including the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, as well as the heads of the Trade and Investment Development Agencies, Jetro, and the International Cooperation, Jica, warmly welcomed the recent entry into force of the investment promotion and protection agreement and the double taxation agreement, which will further encourage Japanese companies to invest in Morocco.
There is thus momentum to be seized, particularly in the context of relocation of production chains and disruption of supply chains that the world is experiencing.
On this occasion, Nobuhiko Sasaki, CEO of Jetro, suggested the forthcoming organization of a business forum between the Moroccan and Japanese private sectors, “not only in the traditional sectors of activity where Japanese companies are present in Morocco such as automotive but also in new target sectors such as aeronautics, hotels and renewable energiesโ.
