Moroccan authorities have announced that 438 irregular migrants were rescued in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean in 5 days.

This was reported by the official press agency during the evening of Monday, citing a military source.

The agency quoted the (anonymous) source as saying that “Royal Navy combat units operating in the Mediterranean and the Atlantic Ocean, during the period from 19 to 23 August, succeeded in bringing aid to 438 illegal immigrants.”

The source pointed out that the people who “were rescued and received first aid aboard Royal Navy units, before being transported safely to neighboring ports in the Kingdom and handed over to the Royal Gendarmerie to carry out the operations. procedures in force.”

Last July, Morocco announced the rescue of 368 irregular migrants off its coast, between the 20th and 23rd of the same month, including 7 women and 3 children, according to the official press agency.

Morocco also announced last November that it had thwarted 26,800 attempts at irregular migration since early 2020, as well as the dismantling of more than 196 criminal networks active in the migration field, according to the results of the Interior Ministry.

For years, the Maghreb countries have suffered from an irregular migration crisis of their citizens and those from sub-Saharan Africa, who travel to European countries due to economic crises.
