As part of the call for tenders for the Noor PV II solar program launched by Morocco in 2020 and which aims to develop 400 MW of electricity, 4 companies were selected at the beginning of ‘April. Among these is the French company Voltalia.
Energy company Voltalia SA has won two solar projects with a combined capacity of 117 MW with 69 MW located in Ain Beni Mathar and a 48 MW park in Guercif, Morocco. This was stated by the company in a press release issued on Monday, April 25, 2022.
“We are very happy to have won these sites in Morocco. The future photovoltaic power plants will participate in the decarbonization of energy by avoiding the emission of around 200,000 tonnes of CO 2 into the atmosphere”, commented Sébastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia.
Out of a total of 400 MW proposed by the Ministry of Energy within the framework of the 1st phase of the Noor PV II solar program, 333 MW have been allocated to Taqa Maroc, Enel Green Power Morocco, Amea Power, and finally Voltalia.
Voltalia plans to begin the development of photovoltaic power plants in the last quarter of 2023. Once operational, these infrastructures will cover the electrical energy needs of 290,000 inhabitants each year. Revenues will be guaranteed by long-term electricity sales contracts, to be concluded with private customers connected to the public electricity network.
Voltalia entered the Moroccan renewable energy market in 2015 and already has almost 100 MW mainly in wind and hydroelectricity plus 400 MW of projects mainly in solar which are under development.
