In recent days, the Moroccan authorities have carried out the expulsion of 39 Algerian and Tunisian migrants in an irregular situation in the territory. These individuals, arrested near the town of Fnideq, intended to reach the Spanish enclave of Ceuta clandestinely.
According to security sources, the expulsions were carried out in two stages: five people were returned to Tunisia last Wednesday, followed by 34 others on Sunday. The flights all took off from Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca.
Due to the breakdown in diplomatic relations between Morocco and Algeria, Algerian nationals were repatriated via Tunisia, due to a lack of direct air links between the two countries.
Alongside these expulsions, Moroccan law enforcement carried out a vast surveillance operation on social networks, targeting content inciting illegal immigration. Between September 9 and 11, 60 people, including minors, were arrested in Tangier and Tetouan for disseminating false information on social networks, in particular about an attempted collective crossing of the border with Ceuta planned for September 15.
