Morocco: Calls for a Boycott of French Products

Calls for a boycott of French products have been launched in Morocco following France’s decision to reduce the granting of visas to Moroccans to 50% and that of the European justice system relating to the cancellation of two free-trade agreements. exchange on agricultural and fishing products between the kingdom and the EU.

โ€œTo all Moroccans, it is imperative to boycott all French products. We will come out only by the force of our unionโ€. “As long as it is not the visa for Mekka, I boycott France and all its products” … These are among other things the messages on posters published on social networks to call on Moroccans to boycott French products. This boycott campaign follows the taking of two annoying decisions: the announcement of the 50% reduction in the granting of French visas for Moroccans and the cancellation of two free trade agreements relating to agricultural products and fishing between the kingdom and the EU.

On Wednesday, France decided to toughen the granting of visas for Moroccans, Algerians, and Tunisians on the grounds that these three countries refuse to issue consular passes necessary for the return of their nationals returned from France. Reacting to this decision, Nasser Bourita, Moroccan Minister for Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Living Abroad dismantled this argument. He said that the Moroccan consulates in France have issued in recent months nearly 400 laissez-passers.
