Morocco and Germany pledged on Wednesday to establish “close and friendly relations” and to start a new dialogue to “overcome misunderstandings in their relations”.
The two countries “agreed to resume cooperation in all areas and to involve all stakeholders”, said a joint statement issued after a virtual meeting between Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his counterpart. German Annalena Baerbock.
The ministers also praised the great potential of relations between Morocco and Germany, reaffirming the shared interest in giving them additional impetus in terms of the challenges and requirements of post-Covid recovery, the statement continued.
On the occasion, the head of German diplomacy welcomed the return of the Ambassador of Morocco to Berlin, while announcing the imminent arrival of the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in Rabat.
In May 2021, Morocco recalled its ambassador to Berlin for consultations following what Rabat considered to be “deep misunderstandings” with Germany on issues that Morocco considers essential for its sovereignty.
