Open land borders to allow humanitarian corridors and the movement of people, and end hate speech, and promote a new era of diplomatic relations. This is how “The Call of the Future” is summed up by Moroccan and Algerian personalities to the Algerian authorities.
“The Call of the Future” is an initiative led by 100 Moroccan personalities including the lawyer Naoufal Bouamri and the associative actor, Hicham Snoussi, and Algerians including the journalist Walid Kabir, president of the Maghrebian Association for Peace, Cooperation and development, and journalist Anouar Soulaimani, university researcher. “We address our appeal to people of good intentions who believe in the unity of a common destiny, to begin the gradual resolution of the problems,” they said.
The initiators of the call ask the Algerian authorities to “take into consideration the human dimension of family relations, in particular near both sides of the border, and to allow families who are very psychologically affected to have the right to exchange visits. between them within the framework of the opening of a humanitarian passage for pedestrians allowing them to renew contacts between them and to alleviate their suffering of more than a quarter of a century without being able to see each other again ”.
They also call for an end to hate speech relayed by “media which are subject to the narrow calculations of politicians in the two countries” and also call for “to open channels of dialogue between the elites of the two countries for a discussion without fanaticism or chauvinism ”so that viable solutions are found to the problems which destroy fraternal and good neighborly relations between Morocco and Algeria.
“We consider that the humanitarian side can resolve this situation and push to think about the opening of the borders for the citizens of the two sides”, underlined for his part the Moroccan lawyer, Naoufal Bouamri, one of the initiators of the appeal, as did the two former ministers Abdelkarim Benatiq and Jamal Aghmani, and the diplomatic adviser in Washington, Samir Bennis.
