Morocco: 49% Increase in the Number of Foreign Tourists

The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism announced, on Monday, October 2, 2023, that the number of tourists arriving in the country increased by 49% from January to the end of August 2023.

The ministry said in a statement on Monday that the number of foreign tourists arriving in the country reached 10.2 million in the first 8 months of 2023. It indicated an increase in the number of tourists arriving in the country by 49% during the same period.

The press release highlights that “tourism revenues, which constitute an important source of hard currency, amounted to 71.4 billion dirhams ($7.1 billion) during the first 8 months of 2023, recording exceptional growth. by 33% compared to the same months of last year.

Moroccan Minister of Tourism, Fatima Zahra Amor, said: “These results reflect the strong attractiveness of the country. evidenced by the country’s tourist destination and the effectiveness of the measures. The proactivity we have adopted in the field of air transport and promotion as well as with tour operators in key markets,” according to the press release”.

The minister added: “Despite the post-earthquake challenges, we are optimistic about the sector’s prospects for the remainder of the year. We work closely with professionals to continue the strong development and growth experienced by the sector.

On January 31, 2023, the Moroccan government reported that 11 million tourists visited the country throughout 2022.

Morocco says its plan to revitalize the tourism sector is to welcome 26 million tourists per year until 2030.
