Moroccans angry with Moroccan consul in Cairo

The confusing situation in Cairo. A document from the consulate would create psychosis among MREs and tourists wishing to reach Rabat from Cairo airport. Stranded travelers denounce a lack of information.

What is really going on at the Moroccan consulate in the Egyptian capital? Since the reopening of the borders, several nationals have been refused boarding at Cairo international airport, despite a valid passport, a valid plane ticket, and a negative PCR test reports the newspaper Al Baya.

The reason, absence in the documents of a famous document that would be issued by the consulate.

Approached by the newspaper, Fatima-Zohra Dghoghi, Moroccan living between Cairo and Tangier recounted her misadventure. For ten days it was impossible for her to return home. She was the subject of ping-pong between the consulate and the airport services being blocked for travel.

“Last week, airport services banned me from boarding. The reason is given: a failure to present a hotel reservation”. And to add, “I am Moroccan and I do not hold any other nationality. Logically, to return to my country, I do not need a hotel reservation since my home is in Morocco,” she says.

She continues: Moroccans living in Egypt assured me that I also needed a paper issued by the Moroccan Consulate in Cairo to be able to leave Egyptian territory.

A document that she will seek in vain because the consul she met assures her that this document would only exist in the imagination of nationals. “The consul does not issue any document authorizing Moroccan nationals to leave Egyptian territory. “To leave Egypt, it is enough to present the authorization to leave the territory (Moroccan)”, he will advance.

An assertion undermined by the source which ensures that the consulate issues a document allowing Moroccan nationals to leave Egypt

“On June 6, the scheduled date of my return flight, many compatriots showed me at the airport the famous document issued by the Moroccan consulate. The concern is that on the spot, the head of the consular representation told me the opposite,” she concludes.
