Mediterranean Games in Oran: France Eliminates Algeria, and Morocco in the Semi-Finals

Beaten 3-2 by France Thursday on the third day, Algeria is eliminated from the football test of the Mediterranean Games in Oran. Neutralized by Spain (1-1), Morocco qualified for the semi-finals of the tournament.

The football match at the Mediterranean Games in Oran continued on Thursday with matches on the third day of the group stages. The host country of the tournament, Algeria suffered its second defeat against France. Les Fennecs U18 lost to Les Bleuets 3-2 after a rebounding match.

Led 2-0 at the half-hour mark on a double from Amine Messoussa (8th, 28th), the Algerian team managed to pick up the mark after returning from the locker room. Ivane Chegra reduced the score from the penalty spot (56′) before Mohamed Sais Benmazouz equalized (78′). But at the end of the game, Badredine Bounani on the last penalty obtained by the French gives the advantage to his team which finally wins with the score of 3-2.

A disappointment for Algeria which finished third in Group A with three points. Insufficient for the hopeful Fennecs to qualify for the semi-finals which are therefore eliminated from the tournament.

The adventure continues however for Morocco, who qualified for the semi-finals by beating Spain in the other match in the group (1-1). Yassine Khalifi (23’) quickly responded to the opener signed Rodriguez (14′) and allowed the Atlas Cubs to validate their ticket. On Saturday, they will face Italy for a place in the final.

The final classification of group A:  France  7 points,  Morocco  4 pts, Algeria 3 pts, Spain 2 pts.
