Turkey prefers to ignore the Geneva military agreement signed on Friday, October 23 between the two opposing Libyan parties for an immediate and comprehensive ceasefire. The agreement notably stipulates the departure of all foreign mercenaries within 90 days.
A few hours after the signing of the military agreement in Geneva, the Turkish president said he would ignore it. And his defence minister posted photos of members of the West Libyan forces in training.

A gesture followed in Libya by a statement by Salah Eddine al-Namrouche, Minister of Defense in the Government of National Accord who affirms that the Geneva agreement does not prevent the Turkish army from training the Western forces Libyan. He also announces that dozens of fighters are continuing their training in Turkey under the military agreement signed with Ankara in 2019.
Khaled al-Mishri, this Islamist at the head of the High Council of State, doubts the ability of the Khalifa Haftar camp to keep the Geneva commitments. In turn, he asserts that the latest resolutions do not concern the military agreements signed with Ankara.
However, Stéphanie Williams, the UN special envoy, announced the suspension of training in Libya and all military agreements until the arrival of a new government of national unity (GNA).
In addition, the Libyan foreign and interior ministers were in Doha on Monday to sign a security agreement with Qatar despite the decisions taken in Geneva. Doha and Ankara support the GNA camp in western Libya. While Cairo, Abu Dhabi and Riyadh support the camp of Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
