In a post on the social network X, La France Insoumise (LFI) MEP of Palestinian origin Rima Hassan described Algeria as a beacon of freedoms and Israel as a “fascist” and “apartheid ” regime
A response to the philosopher and co-founder of the magazine Franc-Tireur Raphaël Enthoven, who had stated on the same social network (X, formerly Twitter): “Tel Aviv is the Mecca of freedom. Every human must make a pilgrimage there at least once, and taste the inexhaustible charms of the most joyful, tolerant, open, lively, city in the entire Middle East”, according to the JDD.
The positions and statements of the LFI MEP did not fail to provoke reactions.
In response, Jean-Sébastien Ferjou, founder of the Atlantico website, recalled the places occupied by Algeria and Israel in the ranking established by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in terms of democratic level.
Among other examples, last May she compared “what Israel is doing to Palestine” to the French colonization of Algeria and declared: “Israel is worse than Russia.”
Last May, Rima Hassan called Israel a “monstrosity without a name” after Israeli strikes on Rafah in the Gaza Strip.
The figure of the Palestinian cause within LFI has repeatedly accused the Hebrew state of perpetrating a “genocide” against the Palestinian people and of applying “apartheid”.
