Legal cannabis in Morocco is reaching a historic milestone with the imminent start of the first legal harvest of the “Beldia” variety. Planting of imported seeds has already begun. This new phase promises to transform the country’s agricultural landscape.
First legal harvest of Beldia
The first harvest of legal cannabis “Beldia” will begin in a few days. The plants from imported seeds are already in the ground. 50% of the authorized land (2,500 hectares) is dedicated to this crop. The greenhouses are now receiving the plants by the legal procedures provided for in this regard.
Training and workshops
The second season of legal cannabis production is in full swing. The National Agency for the Regulation of Activities Relating to Cannabis (ANRAC) and the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA) are organizing training sessions. Yesterday in Chefchaouen, today in Al Hoceima, and next week in Taounate, the sessions bring together all the players in the sector.
These trainings focus on three main themes: the construction of processing units, best agricultural and processing practices (GACP and GMP), and financing possibilities for cooperatives. This program aims to equip farmers and cooperatives with the tools needed to succeed in this new legal framework.
Expansion and licensing
The new season is expected to see a notable expansion. More than 2,500 hectares are planned compared to only 286 hectares last year. The number of licensed cooperatives has increased from 32 to 170, and the licenses granted to farmers now cover 2,700 hectares, compared to 430 last year.
Prospects
The future of legal cannabis in Morocco looks bright. With a significant increase in cultivated areas and licensed cooperatives, the sector is growing. Young farmers now have a unique opportunity to participate in this green revolution.
