A tool for discovering the 7th art in all its diversity, the new Moroccan cinema streaming platform “Aflamin” brings a wide range of independent films from Morocco, but also from all continents, most of which have won awards at the biggest international festivals.
Created this year by the start-up Good Fellows, on the initiative of director Nabil Ayouch and Ali n’Productions, the Moroccan cinema platform Aflamin meets an essential cultural need.
The idea of Aflamin comes from the dual need to give the general public legal access to national productions and to contribute to the dynamics of the Moroccan film industry by redistributing the revenue generated fairly to the rights holders. All the content presented on Aflamin has been acquired from around forty producers and is protected by anti-piracy systems that meet international standards.
According to Moroccan filmmaker Nabil Ayouch, “Moroccans, and in particular the youth of our country, love their cinema. And yet they have relatively few opportunities to see or review recent or heritage films. Our ambition is not only to reconnect the Moroccan public to their cinema but also to promote the work of filmmakers by offering a new distribution window for our works.
The selection offered by the platform is based on a single credo: to highlight films that have obvious interest for the Moroccan public, whether artistic, intellectual, entertaining, cultural, sociological or historical.
National cinema being its primary vocation, Aflamin has set itself the objective of presenting almost all Moroccan cinema within two years. New film acquisitions will thus increase the offer month after month and be the subject of dedicated editorial content, intended to highlight them.
To do this, Aflamin not only offers very complete files for each film, but also a monthly highlighting of 3 to 5 titles, mainly Moroccan, without forgetting thematic cycles throughout the year.
Through this effort of diversified programming, editorialization and prescription, Aflamin proposes to contribute to strengthening and extending the cinephile fiber throughout the kingdom, and this by participating in image education. Aflamin also sets itself the task of developing curiosity for this major art of cinema, by sharpening the general public’s view of films, and more generally their view of the world.
“ Both nationally and internationally, the public is eager for culture and cinema “on demand”. The international VOD platforms already present offer little Moroccan cinema. Aflamin proposes to dig a new channel around our national cinema but also with an offer of independent international cinema. Our idea is to build a new audience of cinephiles, as wide as possible, among our fellow citizens”, underlines Kenza Safouane, general manager of Aflamin.
“The fact remains that in our eyes the best way to present Moroccan cinema is to include it in an international cinema, to show that it exists, that it has evolved, and is still evolving today in dialogue with other world cinemas”, concludes Nabil Ayouch.
