Lafarge Algeria/Port of Djendjen: Installation of a Ship Loader

The cement manufacturerย Lafarge Algeria, a subsidiary of the Swiss group Holcim, announced on Monday, November 22 in a press release, the signing of an agreement for “the installation and operation of the first ship loader in Algeria”.ย 

This equipment was installed at the port of Djendjen in the wilaya of Jijel and made available to all economic operators active in the production and export of Clinker.

The signing ceremony of the agreement between Lafarge Algeria and the port of Djendjen was organized on the occasion of the 5th edition of the International Transport and Logistics Exhibition [LOGISTICAL-2021], it was reported in the press release.

The same source clarified that the ceremony took place in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Aissa Bekkaรฏ, the Minister of Trade and Export Promotion, Kamel REzig, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of lafarge Logistique Algeria, Samir Gherbi, the Export Director at Lafarge Algeria, Hafid Aouchiche, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Cilas, Abdenour Souakri, and the CEO of the Port of Djendjen, Abdeslem Bouab as well as a large delegation.

According to Lafarge Algeria: โ€œThis equipment, with a nominal loading capacity of 750 Tons / Hour, will be installed at the port of Djendjen and made available to all economic operators active in the production and export of Clinker.”

The availability of this type of installation at the port level will allow Lafarge Algeria and the other operators to “increase the rate of loading of the vessels and thus avoid the additional costs of fixed assets (demurrage)”; the “optimization of the operation of the docks”; to “preserve the quality of the product, which depreciates on contact with water”; to โ€œalso preserve the environment by avoiding product losses and dust emissionsโ€; and to โ€œpreserve water bodiesโ€.

โ€œAdded to the partnership already in place with the Rail Logistique subsidiary of SNTF, with the creation of the first logistics platform dedicated to the export of clinker.ย The commissioning of this ship loader [Shiploader] will constitute an important step in the industrialization of the export logistics of clinker, by allowing Algeria to export more than 10 million tonnes of clinker, thus placing it as a player. major in the Mediterranean and African marketโ€, explains Lafarge Algeria in its press release.

Through these investments, Lafarge Algeria confirms โ€œits ambition to accelerate its export program, which is fully in line with the strategy dictated by the country’s high authorities consisting of ensuring commercial outlets for national products, and the diversification of external revenues excluding hydrocarbons,โ€ concluded the same source.
