President Kaïs Saïed discussed, Wednesday, February 14, 2024, during a meeting at the Palace of Carthage with Prime Minister Ahmed Hachani, the activities of the government and the implementation of major projects blocked for many years.
According to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic, these projects, which were not specified, “either have not started or have started and are at a standstill for various reasons, in particular, because of complex procedures and often the is part of corruption lobbies who believe that the success of these projects compromises their interests.”
The meeting discussed the need to put an end to so-called subcontracting, which is “disguised slavery and tantamount to human trafficking,” according to the same statement.
“What right does a person have to work for a small salary and the owner of the company is paid much more,” he underlines, still according to the same press release.
The President of the Republic also stressed the need to find a rapid solution for construction site workers so that they can benefit from their rights through this or that mechanism. “What we call a mechanism keeps many people in precarious situations which are not acceptable by a State whose policy is based on justice and equity,” he was quoted as saying.
The meeting also discussed Tunisia’s participation in the 37th ordinary session of the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the African Union.
In this regard, the President of the Republic reiterated that Tunisia is working to make Africa belong to Africans and to put an end to the suffering of many African peoples for decades. And this, even though the African continent is rich in natural resources which “have unfortunately not been exploited by the majority of its population and that hundreds of millions of people continue to live in poverty and hunger, without talk about terrorist organizations that have found space in these resources to grow and further destabilize security and stability.”
