Kais Saied Reiterates Tunisia’s Position on Migration and Calls for Administration Neutrality

During his meeting this Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Carthage Palace with the Head of Government Ahmed Hachani, the President of the Republic, Kais Saied, discussed the results of Tunisia’s participation in the Forum on Migration in the Mediterranean, held in Tripoli the day before.

Kais Saied reaffirmed Tunisia’s firm position on the issue of irregular migration. The President stressed that Tunisia, proud of its African affiliation, has provided all possible assistance to migrants who are victims of human trafficking networks.

However, he insisted that Tunisia cannot accept becoming a transit or settlement point for these migrants. According to Kais Saied, the solution to this problem can only be collective, involving the dismantling of the criminal networks responsible for this abnormal phenomenon. He also mentioned that these migrants are victims of an unjust global economic system.

Furthermore, President Kais Saied reiterated the importance of the neutrality of the Tunisian administration. He stressed that each official must abstain from any political consideration and respect the duties of neutrality and reserve. He denounced the shortcomings observed in certain administrations and insisted on the need to apply the appropriate legal sanctions in the event of failure or negligence within state institutions.

This statement highlights the challenges Tunisia faces in terms of migration and administrative management and reflects President Saied’s commitment to addressing these issues with firmness and determination.
