Israeli Mfa Begins Visit to Morocco on Wednesday

Israeli Foreign Minister Yaรฏr Lapid is expected to inaugurate the Israeli Liaison Office in the Moroccan capital, Rabat, next Thursday, where he is expected to arrive on Wednesday, during the first official visit of an Israeli Minister of Affairs. foreigners, since the announcement of the resumption of diplomatic relations between the two countries at the end of 2020.

The (official) Israeli news site Israel 24 said on Tuesday that “Lapid will begin his visit to Morocco tomorrow, Wednesday, which is expected to last until Thursday, accompanied by a delegation that includes officials from various sectors, including tourism, labor, and health.”

And to add that the visit will begin with a “visit to the tombs of the late kings Mohammed V and Hassan II.”

“Lapid will meet his Moroccan counterpart Nasser Bourita, with whom he is expected to sign 3 agreements to deepen cooperation and strengthen relations between the two countries,” added the site.

The same source said: “Israeli officials are scheduled to meet with Moroccan Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Air Transport, and Social Economy Nadia Fattah al-Alawi, as well as officials from the Moroccan Ministry of Health, to discuss how to deal with the repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.”

The Israeli news site added that “on the second day of the visit, the Israeli foreign minister is expected to inaugurate the Israeli liaison office in Rabat.”

And to indicate that “the program of the visit also provides for the practice of prayers, next Thursday, in one of the (Jewish) temples of the city, then the Israeli delegation should conclude its visit with a press conference in a hotel of the economic capital.”

“Morocco and Israel have taken a new step in strengthening bilateral relations with the launch on July 25 of the first direct commercial flight between Tel Aviv and Marrakech by Israeli airlines,” Israel 24 reported.

According to the site, the last visit of an Israeli foreign minister to the Kingdom of Morocco dates back 18 years, at the time of the visit of the foreign minister, Silvan Shalom, in 2003.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry has not issued any official comments or further details regarding the visit.
