Islamic Solidarity Games: With 62 Medals (15 Gold), Morocco Leads at the Arab and African Level

Morocco picked up 62 medals (15 gold, 13 silver, and 34 bronze), ranking 6th at the Islamic Solidarity Games, which ended Thursday night in Konya, Turkey, and 1st at the Arab and African.

The Moroccan harvest of these games, organized from August 9 to 18, is divided between athletics, with 14 medals (4 in gold, 3 in silver, and 7 in bronze), kickboxing with 16 medals (3 in gold, 4 in silver, and 9 in bronze), taekwondo with 9 medals (3 in gold, 2 in silver and 4 in bronze), sport boules, with 10 medals (2 in gold, 1 in silver and 7 in bronze), karate with 8 medals (3 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze), judo with 3 medals (2 silver and 1 bronze) and sport shooting with 2 bronze medals.

Morocco occupies first place at the Arab and African level in terms of medals won during this 5th edition of the Islamic Solidarity Games in which 56 countries were represented, commented the technical director of the Moroccan National Olympic Committee (CNOM), Hassan Fekkak. , adding that the 62 medals constitute a record for Moroccan participation in the Islamic Solidarity Games, all editions combined.

For Hassan Fekkak, the level of the competition was very high with the participation of several Olympic champions and medalists at the world championships in different disciplines.

Morocco was represented by 177 athletes (126 boys and 51 girls) who took part in these long-awaited games after their postponement to 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic, which turned the world sports calendar upside down.
