In Geneva, Algeria Denounces Morocco’s “Lie Industry”

The Permanent Representative of Algeria in Geneva, Ambassador Lazhar Soualem responded tit for tat to the Moroccan Minister of Justice who, during the high-level segment of the UN Human Rights Council, devoted “a third of his intervention in the attack” of Algeria.

For Lazhar Soualem, Algeria is attacked because it shows itself attached to international legality, in solidarity with a people who refuse occupation and the fait accompli of colonization and who have been asking for more than four decades for the organization of a self-determination referendum.

The Algerian diplomat considered that it is “distressing ” that the Moroccan representative strives to give ” an ideally satisfactory image of the performance of his country”, while, he underlines, the demonstrators occupy the public spaces of 50 Moroccan cities for weeks ” to denounce plunder, predation and social injustice, robbing food businesses and demanding change”.

“Lie Industry”

Mr. Soualem described Morocco as a “falsely constitutional kingdom” which “disguises its records, including those of human rights, and disguises the realities induced by the military occupation of a territory for which it has no title deed”.

“It (Morocco, editor’s note) manipulates international public opinion, violently repressing its opponents, including through its digital police, and spying on its own allies using the sinister Pegasus software, including those here from the diplomatic center of Geneva”, accuses he.

To ensure “the complacency of its protectors in order to encourage, as has been the case for four decades, the inaction of the deliberative and sanctioning bodies of the United Nations”, the kingdom has, denounced the Algerian representative, builds” a lying industry backed by a rating machine”.

Lazhar Soualem also pointed out that if these facts have been mentioned for years, it is to call ” for the awakening of consciences and to underline our collective responsibility in order to put an end to the incongruity of the formulas concocted by the Kingdom of Morocco which, without detour, assumes in front of us a characterized aggression”.

In conclusion, the Algerian diplomat refers the Moroccan official to the aide-memoire submitted on September 30, 2021, by the Algerian mission to diplomatic representations and international organizations in Geneva and to the “scathing denial” of the spokesperson for the Secretary-General of the UN which swept away, on January 17, 2022,” the allegations concerning an alleged enlistment of refugee children in the Sahrawi army
