On Tuesday, a significant day for livestock supply ahead of Aรฏd El-Adha 2025, Algiers Port received a ship from Spain carrying 13,000 sheep. Notably, a second ship, also loaded with a large number of imported sheep, is expected to arrive later today from Cartagena, Spain. This marks the first time Algiers Port has simultaneously welcomed two such vessels.
Meanwhile, Annaba Port received a third ship carrying another 13,000 sheep, the second to dock at this port, boosting the regionโs supply capacity.
Aรฏd El-Adha 2025: Special Arrangements at Algiers Port for Imported Sheep
To prepare for Aรฏd El-Adha, the Algiers Port Authority (EPAL) implemented exceptional measures to ensure smooth and rapid handling of the two ships. On Monday, May 5, 2025, a critical coordination meeting was held, chaired by EPALโs Director General, Abdelhamid Boualaรขm, to organize this unique operation.
The meeting included representatives from the Madar group, the transit agent, and EPALโs operational directors. The primary goal was to ensure optimal coordination for unloading and transporting the sheep for Aรฏd El-Adha celebrations. Madar confirmed its readiness, with logistics and trucks mobilized for the two ships, Alviar and Logitrans.
To ensure success, Boualaรขm issued strict instructions to mobilize all EPAL resources. Specific measures include a dedicated lane for sheep-transporting trucks and a special team of security and port control agents to oversee operations, prioritizing truck entry, exit, and loading.
