Husband of US embassy official in Morocco pleads guilty to sex abuse.

The spouse of a U.S. embassy official in Morocco has pleaded guilty to sexually abusing a household staff member, the Justice Department said Wednesday evening.

Labib Chammas of Reston, Va., is the husband of a former deputy chief of mission in Rabat, Morocco. He pleaded guilty to one count of abusive sexual conduct.

Chammas admitted to abusing a woman who had worked in State Department-owned housing from August 2010 to February 2013 when he served as the residence supervisor.

“Out of fear that she would lose her job, the victim complied with Chammas’s requests that she massage his legs, hip and back, and then with his subsequent demands that she ‘massage’ his genitalia,” the Justice Department wrote. “On at least five occasions, Chammas took the victim by her head or hair and attempted to force her to perform oral sex.”

Chammas repeatedly threatened to fire the victim if she spoke up, but she finally did. U.S. authorities looked into the incident and the Justice Department brought charges against him.

U.S. District Judge Christopher R. Cooper in Washington set Chammas’ sentencing for Jan. 4.
