Handball CAN: CAHB Withdraws the Organization in Morocco and Algeria

Meeting in an extraordinary session by videoconference on March 28, the council of the African Handball Confederation decided to withdraw the organization of the next two editions of the African championship 2022 in Morocco and the 2024 edition in Algeria.

This is what is mentioned in an official press release. The African disciplinary body justified its decision in relation to “the extra-sporting tensions and differences that have marred bilateral relations between Moroccans and Algerians and have resulted in disrupting the planning work within CAHB”. Taking into account the general interest, the CAHB underlined its desire to ensure the smooth running of the competitions organized under its aegis, while relying on the values โ€‹โ€‹of the Olympic Charter.

Thus, the Algerian national team will thus avoid withdrawing in 2022, since Morocco wanted at all costs to organize the competition in the occupied city of Laรขyoune located in Western Sahara. In addition, the Greens will not have the opportunity to play again in front of their public in 2024 to try to snatch the 8th coronation and ensure qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
