France has placed Morocco on its red list of “countries where the virus is circulating quite actively with worrying variants”. Nicolas Brumelot, president and co-founder of MisterFly affirms that the passage of the kingdom “in red is a hard blow” for the tourism sector.
“Morocco is an important destination on the French market. Fortunately, the peak of departures to Morocco has passed. We are in the off-season. However, we will have to manage a certain number of cancellations and postponements, which is exhausting for the teams. However, we have become accustomed to seeing countries open and close. We are used to doing and undoing. More generally, the passage of Morocco in red is a blow and a negative message which reinforces the climate of uncertainties weighing on the autumn. Without any visibility, nowhere so to speak,” declared Nicolas Brumelot in an interview with L’Écho Tourisme.
According to the president and co-founder of MisterFly, the protests, the Delta variant, lockdowns in certain regions of the world, the third vaccination, and the closed long-haul create an environment of strong uncertainties. “It also confirms that we are not out of the crisis. This is the big lesson of this summer,” he summarizes. Regarding the summer results in terms of destinations, Nicolas Brumelot indicated that Greece is the best seller of the summer. “France has also worked well, especially Corsica. Southern Europe – Spain, Portugal, Italy – also. North Africa has been more complicated, with Tunisia, Morocco, and Algeria turning red more recently. North America and Asia remained closed, the long-haul could not take off again,” he added.
