The French interior minister and his German counterpart, Nancy Faeser, arrived Sunday evening in Tunis for a two-day visit, focusing on irregular migration.
Tunisian Interior Minister Kamel Fékih welcomed the two guests on Sunday evening at Tunis-Carthage International Airport, according to a succinct statement shared on the ministry’s official Facebook page.
“Darmanin and Faeser arrived as part of a joint working visit to Tunis which will continue until June 19,” added the same source.
This visit comes after a week of that of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, the President of the Italian Council Georgia Meloni and the Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, who had met the Tunisian President Kaïs Saïed, Sunday June 11.
Tunisia and the European Union announced, in a joint declaration at the end of this visit, their agreement on a “global partnership” package which will be adopted within the framework of a memorandum of understanding before the end of the month. of current June.
The partnership program includes “the strengthening of economic and commercial relations, the establishment of a partnership in the field of renewable and competitive energy, migration and rapprochement between peoples”.
Last Saturday, President Kaïs Saïed affirmed that “the solution concerning migratory flows will not be at the expense of Tunisia”, stressing that “his country will not be a border guard of countries (which he did not mention )”.
