French President Emmanuel Macron called for an immediate halt to arms shipments to Israel, calling for a “political solution to the crisis” in an interview with France Inter on Saturday.
Macron’s statement comes amid escalating tensions and military action in the Middle East.
He expressed regret at the lack of results in the ceasefire negotiations with Israel.
” I think we are not being heard… This is a mistake, including for the future of Israel’s security,” he said.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sharply criticized Macron’s comments in a video posted on social media the same day.
โ President Macron and other Western leaders are now calling for an arms embargo on Israel. Shame on them,โ Netanyahu said.
” Israel will triumph with or without their support, but their regrets will linger long after our victory,” he added.
Qatar has backed Macron’s call for a weapons ban on Israel, saying Israeli military actions pose threats to regional and international security.
” The French call is in line with the resolutions of the Security Council, the United Nations General Assembly, and the International Court of Justice, which have called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip,” the Qatari Foreign Ministry said on Sunday.
