After a certain age spent abroad or as the Algerians like to call it “El ghorba”, the nostalgia for the country, for loved ones, and for the moments spent in one’s native land appears overnight.
We book a ticket, we prepare our suitcases and we move to the airport to finally arrive at our destination, this is the ordinary routine of a simple traveler, but not that of Hebhab Hocine.
A sad end for an Algerian national who went missing for ten days in Paris. Hebhab Hocine, from the village of Sahel in the Kabylie region, was discovered dead on Friday, April 8 in Lyon. Aged 77, the man planned to move to Algeria before mysteriously disappearing at Roissy Charles De Gaules airport.
A search notice has been published on social networks with the aim of finding this citizen of the Sahel. Hebhab Hocine went from his city of residence, Marseille, to Paris at Roissy Charles De Gaules airport to take a plane to Algiers.
A flight he unfortunately never took. His family has not heard from him since March 30, 2022. Until last Friday. The lifeless body of the missing man was discovered in Paris. The circumstances of his tragic disappearance remain unknown.
“Since March 30, we have been looking for Mr. Hebhab Hocine who probably disappeared at Roissy Charles de Gaulle airport (Paris region) during his correspondence between the flight from his home in Marseille and the one that was to take him to his native village Sahel in the commune of Bouzeguène (Wilaya of Tizi Ouzou) via Algiers” reads the search notice.
The inhabitants of the village and part of the Algerian diaspora in France mobilized to try to find Hebhab Hocine who “neither the police services which were alerted nor the Sahelian community of France managed to locate him”. And it was the whole village that responded to this call from the Hebhab family in order to locate their relative.
Found in the same circumstances, an octogenarian who went missing a year ago
Maamar Belghali, too, was seen for the last time on the same day of his disappearance, that is to say, February 11, 2021. Indeed, that day, the octogenarian was back from a trip from Algeria and landed at Lyon-Saint-Exupéry airport.
The problem was that Maamar Belghali did not know Lyon and its surroundings. In addition, he would in principle have boarded a flight for Nice or Marseille, but faced with the health crisis, he had to land in Lyon.
To find him, a call for witnesses was launched. After multiple searches, the police made a gruesome discovery. The body of Maamar Belghali was indeed found, lifeless “when he got off the plane, he was seen in the airport for about an hour, having left it by road on foot in the direction of Pusignan” police said at the time.
