Sentenced to 3 years in prison for illegal arms sales in Morocco and other African countries, a former member of the navy commandos was given a reduced sentence in the Caen Court of Appeal.

The Caen correctional court had sentenced, on October 22, 2019, a former navy commando to 3 years suspended prison sentence, โ‚ฌ 50,000 fine, 15 years ban from exercising a commercial profession and 5 years of prohibition of holding a weapon.

Manager of two companies in Caen (Calvados), the 52-year-old man had converted to the sale of weapons of war to Mauritania, Morocco and the Congo. “It was my way of continuing to fight terrorism,” he said. In the meantime he had sold a flourishing company at a profit.

He had appealed the decision rendered on October 22, 2019. He subsequently appeared on January 8. The Caennais had not received an authorization to sell weapons. He said he struggled to follow difficult regulations and said he made no illegal profits.

On February 19, the verdict fell: the judge reduced his sentence to 18 months suspended prison sentence and reduced his ban on managing a company to 3 years.
