Forum of Tunisian Journalists: The Validated Activity Program

During its periodic meeting held this Wednesday, September 6, 2023, the constituent committee of the Forum of Tunisian Journalists validated its program of activities, thus receiving the approval of the majority of its members present.

Among those present, are Mrs. Emna Soula, honorary president, Mrs. Imen Bahroun, president of the forum, Mrs. Nada Ben Chaabane, vice-president (By power of attorney to the honorary president due to illness), Mrs. Naima Chermiti, Head of Communication and Media Relations, Ms. Samah Weslati, Deputy Head of Planning and Programming, Ms. Rajaa Saadani, Treasurer (By proxy for the President following a professional appointment), Ms. Souhir Lahiani, Head of research and scientific studies, and Ms. Nihel Mohamed, Responsible for cooperation with organizations and associations.

In this context, Ms. Souhir Lahiani presented the training program planned by the forum from September 2023, including in particular a workshop on the use of artificial intelligence in the field of journalism and the media, in partnership with the Tunisian Artificial Intelligence Foundation.

This program aims to promote the culture of AI and will bring together Tunisian and international experts in artificial intelligence.

It is also planned to organize practical training workshops with the CAPJC on various topics such as mobile journalism and the art of public speaking.

In partnership with the Institute of Press and Information Sciences, the forum will strengthen the presence of the institute’s students in the media field by offering them internship and field practice opportunities, thus improving their career prospects. ‘job.

The forum will also continue to be active in the cultural and scientific field by organizing workshops on writing techniques and media production while defending the rights of women journalists and improving their image.

In addition, the forum will maintain its cooperation with the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) by hosting a meeting on September 11, 2023, with the president of the Iraqi Women Journalists Forum, on the theme “Iraqi women between reality and challenges: the ‘example of the female journalist’. A meeting open to all Tunisian women journalists, from different areas of expertise and generations.

As part of its annual program, the Forum of Tunisian Women Journalists plans meetings with the Ministry of the Interior to finalize and implement a guiding document drawn up within the framework of its objectives. This document includes several proposals inspired by previous research conducted by UNICEF on the protection of women journalists in the field.

The forum also included in its agenda a presentation of the new book by journalist and writer Essia Atrous, which addresses the subject of Al-Jazeera correspondent Catherine Abou Akla, killed by the Israeli army.

At the same time, the participants examined the applications of several fellow journalists wishing to join the founding committee, following the resignation of certain members.

The Forum would like to express its gratitude to these colleagues for their contribution to the success of this female media structure.

To conclude, the forum reaffirms its commitment to being the voice of Tunisian women journalists and to working in close collaboration with other professional institutions to promote freedom of expression as a fundamental right of every Tunisian, guaranteeing access to information precise and objective from its sources.
