Former Indonesian president pays tribute to memory of Algerian martyrs

ALGIERS- Former Indonesia’s President Megawati Sukarnoputri on Thursday paid tribute to the memory of the martyrs of the national liberation war (1954-1962) at the cemetery of El Alia.

Megawati, accompanied by the speaker of the Council of the Nation (upper house of Parliament), Abdelkader Bensalah, and the ministry of National Solidarity, Family and Women’s Issues, Mounia Meslem, laid a wreath at the Martyr Quarter of El Alia Cemetery and recited Al Fatiha, the first chapter of the Holy Qur’an, in memory of the martyrs.

Indonesia’s former president arrived earlier in Algiers, for a five-day friendship visit.
