Algeria has regained its place in the world’s top 30, thanks to its coronation in the Arab Nations Cup in Qatar (November 30 – December 18).ย The Greens, who took a course champion in the Arab world, are ascending 29th place in the FIFA rankings, released Thursday, December 23.
In the last ranking published on Friday, December 19, Algeria had left the world top 30 (32ndย ), after having given up its place on the African podium, a month earlier, in Morocco.
With five victories and aย ย draw in the Arab Cup, Algeria has gained three places in the FIFA rankings to regain its place in the world top 30 and in the African top 3, behind Senegal (1st in Africa, 20thย in worldwide) and Morocco (2nd in Africa and 28thย in Africa).
Algeria advances, Tunisia retreats
The Greens beatย ย Tunisia (2-0)ย ย in the final, Qatar (2-1) in the semi-final, Morocco in the quarter-finals.ย In the first round, they drew against Egypt (1-1) and beat Lebanon (2-0) and Sudan (4-0).
During the last month, Algeria has achieved the best global progression in terms of the number of places (+3) and has played the most matches (6) with Tunisia, Qatar, and Egypt, who have played respectively the final and the small final of the Arab Cup.
Beaten finalists in the Arab Cup, Tunisia leaves the top 3 African (4thย ) but remains in the top 30 worldwide (30thย ).ย Nigeria remains in the top 5 African (36th worldwide).ย For Egypt (6thย in Africa), it is in 45thย position in the FIFA rankings.
In the world top 10, Belgium remains in the first place, followed by Brazil (2ndย ), France (3rdย ), England (4thย ), Argentina (5thย ), ‘Italy (6thย ), Spain (7thย ), Portugal (8thย ), Denmark (9thย ) and the Netherlands (10thย ).
