On Thursday, September 12, 2024, the Tunisian Academy of Sciences, Letters, and Arts, Beรฏt Al-Hikma, held a conference at its headquarters in Carthage. The event focused on the “Evolution of Teaching Biological Sciences: From Traditional Methods to Modern Technologies.”
The conference was attended by academics and members of the Academy Pre. Amel Hamza Chaffaรฏ (University of Sfax). And moderated by Pr Hafedh Abdelmelek, director of the department of sciences and the academician Pre Amel Ben Ammar Gaรฏed.
The speaker focused on the transition from traditional teaching to e-learning or online learning, reviewing some key historical milestones and presenting a case study on the evolution of a biological sciences course, illustrating the significant impact of new tools and their contribution to making courses more attractive to learners.
Pre Amel Hamza Chaffaรฏ also recalled that e-learning is a process that can offer many advantages, but it also requires careful and constant planning and adaptation, particularly in terms of needs analysis (Internet connection, platforms, software, content creation tools, etc.), training of teachers and students, government policies and continuous improvement and monitoring.
The transition to e-learning can profoundly transform the educational experience. However, it requires a thoughtful, student-centered approach that is adaptable to their needs, means, and environment to ensure that learning outcomes are achieved effectively.
