E-Government: Morocco Gains 11 Places in the World Ranking

Morocco ranks 90th in the world out of 193 countries in the 2024 e-government index, produced by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UNDESA) and published every two years. The kingdom scored 0.6841 out of 1, with higher ones indicating more advanced development in the area studied. Entitled โ€œAccelerating digital transformation for sustainable developmentโ€, the current edition reveals that Morocco has gained 11 places since 2022, where it ranked 101st.

The report compares the development of digital government in the 193 UN member states by assessing national websites, policies, and e-government strategies in various sectors. It also assesses e-participation, focusing on the use of online services to facilitate citizens’ access to information and public services, engage stakeholders, and strengthen participation in decision-making processes.

Countries are ranked based on three sub-indexes: online services, telecommunications infrastructure, and human capital and participation. Morocco obtained a score of 0.5618 in the first indicator, 0.8827 in the second, and 0.6078 in the third. The report also highlights the country’s constant improvement since 2008, when it was ranked 140th.
