The first edition of the “Treg Djanet” ultra-trail race in the desert tracks began this Monday with the participation of 83 runners, including 78 foreigners, according to the organizers.
Organized under the patronage of the Ministry of Youth and Sports by the Algerian Federation of Sport and Labor (FAST) and the local department of the sector, this sports event brings together participants from 11 countries (Algeria, Germany, England, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Spain, France, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal) over five days (from October 28th to November 1st).
The race is divided into five stages, with runners covering approximately 40 km per day for a total distance of 222 km. All necessary conditions have been set to ensure the smooth running and success of this competition, as stated by Ouamane Fodil, the Director of Youth and Sports.
According to statements gathered by APS from foreign participants, they consider this race to be an “unforgettable experience” that allows them to discover the magnificent landscape of this Saharan region. They also took the opportunity to commend the hospitality of the local residents.
On his part, Abdelkrim Chouchaoui, President of FAST, emphasized that the “Treg Djanet” sports event aims to promote Algeria as a destination, foster cultural exchange, and highlight the tourist potential of this southeastern wilaya of the country.
This international event, which has been hosted by Timimoun province for two consecutive years, will also contribute to attracting media attention, helping to strengthen Djanet’s position as a favored tourist destination, he concluded.
