Algerian Date Production Concentrated in the South
Algeria boasts extensive date palm cultivation areas, primarily located in the southern regions of Biskra, Ouargla, Bรฉchar, and Adrar. The country grows over 350 date varieties, enabling it to diversify its offerings in both domestic and international markets.
Among the most sought-after varieties, Deglet Nour stands out as the most exported, often dubbed the โqueen of datesโ for its soft texture and sweet flavor. Another iconic variety, Ghars, is also highly valued for its quality and use in confectionery and derivative products.
The date industry is a vital source of foreign currency for Algeria. With exports to over 90 countries, the sector significantly bolsters the national economy. In recent years, Algeria has launched initiatives to modernize its agricultural infrastructure and enhance date packaging to boost competitiveness on the global stage.
