COVID-19 in Algeria: New Deconfinement Measures

Algeria is continuing its deconfinement, in the context of the decline of the covid-19 pandemic, with less than 200 positive cases per day on average.

Of new measures relief, sanitary confinement was announced on Tuesday 28 September in a statement of the Prime Minister.

“These measures aim, in view of the epidemiological situation, to reorganize the current system of protection and prevention”, explains the press release.

From tomorrow Wednesday, September 29, and a period of 21 days, the night curfew from 11 p.m. until 5 a.m. instead of 10 p.m. – 5 a.m. are applicable in 23 wilayas against 31 wilayas previously.

These are Oum El Bouaghi, Batna, Bejaia, Béchar, Bouira, Tebessa, Tizi-Ouzou, Alger, Jijel, Sétif, Skikda, Sidi Bel Abbes, Guelma, Constantine, Mostaganem, M’Sila, Ouargla, Oran, El Oued, Khenchela, Souk Ahras, Naâma and Ain Temouchent.

Thirty-five wilayas are not affected by the partial home confinement. These are Adrar, Chlef, Laghouat, Biskra, Blida, Tamenghasset, Tlemcen, Tiaret, Djelfa, Saïda, Annaba, Médéa, Mascara, El Bayadh, Illizi, Bordj Bou Arréridj, Boumerdes, El Tarf, Tindouf, Tissemsilt, Tipaza, Mila, Ain Defla, Ghardaia, Relizane, Timimoun, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Ouled Djellal, Beni Abbés, In Salah, In Guezzam, Touggourt, Djanet, El Meghaeir and El Meniaâ.

The wilaya of Blida completely deconfined

In this list, we note the presence of the wilaya of Blida, the initial focus of the epidemic in Algeria and which was one of the first confined wilayas.

In addition to the reorganization of the curfew hours, the government has decided to renew the “measures applicable to ordinary markets and weekly markets relating to the strengthening of the control system by the competent services in order to ensure compliance with preventive measures. and the protection and application of the penalties provided for by the regulations in force against offenders.”

It also decided to maintain “the ban, across the national territory, of any type of gathering of people and family reunification, in particular the celebration of marriages and circumcisions and other events.”

The renewal of the measure relating to the final withdrawal of the authorization to exercise the activity for village halls that violate the ban in force is also among the measures announced on Tuesday by the government.

Finally, the government calls on Algerians to be vaccinated against covid-19 and warns against slackening in compliance with barrier measures (wearing a mask, hand hygiene, and physical and social distancing)

“The downward trend in cases of contamination recorded in recent days should not encourage any relaxation,” warns the government.
