Tunisia took part in these consultations as a privileged non-NATO partner. Except that this participation was pinned down by the Workers’ Party. A photo from the US Department of Defense showing Imed Memmich sitting opposite Dror Shalom, head of the political-military office of the Israeli Ministry of Defense, did not go unnoticed.
In accordance with the principles dictated by Kais Saied in his many past statements, the Workers’ Party denounced Tunisia’s participation in this meeting, considering that the Minister of National Defense, Imed Memmich “found no embarrassment in sit at the same table with the Israeli minister, at a time when Tunisian activists are demonstrating in solidarity with their Palestinian brothers and calling for the criminalization of normalization”.
“This meeting coincides with a period when ‘the Palestinian people are the victims of heinous crimes in Al-Quds and the Gaza Strip, on the instructions and direct supervision of what the party calls ‘the Zionist Minister of War,’ it reads. in a party statement released on Wednesday, April 27.
The party also considered that the participation of the Minister of National Defense in the NATO meeting constitutes “a step towards normalization with the Jewish state which confirms the nature of the political regime in Tunisia”.
According to the party, “Defense Minister Kais Saied is guilty of high treason”, referring here to past statements by the Head of State who has repeatedly affirmed that any normalization with Israel would be considered a crime and a betrayal.
