The vaccine from the Chinese pharmaceutical group Sinopharm, which Morocco intends to use during the major vaccination campaign, is said to be 79.43% effective. The group announced this Wednesday, December 30, in a press release.

The vaccine in question is one of five undergoing clinical trials. The 79.43% efficiency rate is lower than those claimed by Pfizer-BioNTech (95%) and Moderna (94.1%). Sinopharm is the first Chinese group to report figures on the effectiveness of a vaccine in preparation, developed in Beijing by the CNBG laboratory.

Morocco is on the list of countries that have accepted the clinical trials proposed by the pharmaceutical group. About 600 volunteers, including administration officials, participated in the trials, which paved the way for the organization of a national vaccination campaign which was scheduled to start in early December.

China has invested heavily in developing vaccines that can fight the spread of the coronavirus. She intends to benefit the whole world, especially since the virus has started in China and is embedded in almost every country in the world. Health authorities have conducted clinical tests in countries where the circulation of the virus remains intense. Even though the virus has decimated thousands of Chinese citizens, China has managed by force of its research laboratories to take the situation in hand.

By communicating on the effectiveness rate of this first vaccine, Sinopharm also announced that it had filed an application for approval with the Chinese authorities, without specifying whether the clinical trials were completed or not. Even without approval from the authorities, more than a million people have been vaccinated in China.
