Libreville, Friday, July 5, 2024 (Infos Gabon) โ The draw for the African Cup of Nations (CAN) qualifiers took place last Thursday in Johannesburg, South Africa. Organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), it allowed the selection of 48 teams housed in 12 different groups.
The draw for the 2025 CAN has made it possible to choose the football teams that will have to compete to obtain the ticket needed to be among the 24 nations that will play the final phase in Morocco, the host country of the competition from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Gabon, which intends to qualify for the final phase, is placed in Group B, with Morocco (host country), Central African Republic, and Lesotho. Enough to attract the attention of the Gabonese coach who also expressed his satisfaction.
“I would say that we are satisfied with the outcome of the draw, especially knowing that we are in a difficult group B. We know that we will play three for a place, given the fact that Morocco was seeded and already qualified as the host country,” said Thierry Mouyouma.
And he added: “So Gabon, Central Africa, and Lesotho will have to play for a place, but which in my opinion is achievable especially since our only ambition is to qualify for the next CAN in Morocco.”
The draw made other revelations, like the Ivory Coast, the defending champion who is housed in group G with Sierra Leone, Chad, and Zambia.
