CAN 2024: Morocco Surprised at the End of the Match by the DRC (1-1)

Morocco was joined at the end of the match by the DRC (1-1), this January 21, in San Pédro, and will have to wait to validate its place in the round of 16 of the CAN.

Winners of Tanzania in the opening (3-0), the Atlas Lions thought they would continue against the DRC of Chancel Mbemba and Gaël Kakuta. Leading the score since the 6th minute, the semi-finalists of the last World Cup finally broke down in the 76th minute. This draw reignites the suspense in Group F. The Moroccans remain leaders and in a favorable tie with 4 points, but the DRC moves back into second place (2 points) while awaiting the match of Zambia (third, 1 point), which faces Tanzania early in the evening. Morocco and Zambia will face each other on Wednesday, January 24.

Moroccans too wait-and-see

Against the DRC, the Atlas Lions opened the scoring thanks to Achraf Hakimi. The PSG right-back volleyed from the right a corner hit by Hakim Ziyech (6th).

The Congolese had the opportunity to equalize with a penalty (40th), awarded after a handball from Selim Amallah in the area. But Cédric Bakambu sent his attempt onto the right post of Yassine Bounou’s cage.

Too wait-and-see, the Moroccans ended up conceding the equalizer at the end of the match when Stuttgart striker Silas Wamangituka took a back cross from Meschack Elia (76th).
