Can 2021: Morocco Climbs to 8th

Winner of Comoros for its 2nd match in group C of CAN 2021, Morocco has validated its qualification for the 8th finals. The Atlas Lions dominated the game from start to finish but sinned in the finish.

Two games, two victories, and qualification for the round of 16 of CAN 2021: all the lights are green for Morocco. Opposed to Comoros, the Atlas Lions made their status speak to win (2-0). Dominating from start to finish, Vahid Halilhodzic’s men relied on the achievements of Amallah and Aboukhlal to sign another success. The outcome of the match even seemed inevitable as the Moroccans dominated the debates against Comorians who were certainly willing, but with a feeling of powerlessness against an opponent who showed his superiority.

And if El Kaabi showed a blatant clumsiness, Amallah did not need to be asked to propel the leather into the back of the net after an action initiated by Hakimi (16th). Opening of the logical score which placed the Atlas Lions in the lead on the scoreboard. Aguerd had the ball 2-0, but his headed attempt found the crossbar of a lucky Ben Boina on the spot. Dominated, the Coelacanths could only see the difference in level with their opponents, despite the return of Selemani to their ranks. Morocco had another opportunity to make the break, but El Kaabi badly negotiated his face to face in front of Ben Boina (38th). Amir Abdou’s men got off lightly, trailing by only one goal at the break.

The Ben Boina show in the second half

Upon returning from the locker room, Morocco did not let go of its grip on the match and tried to force the decision. But the Atlas Lions showed incredible clumsiness, like El Kaabi still unhappy in the last gesture. Coming into play in his place, En Nesyri was hardly more successful. And when it was not the attackers who were clumsy, it was Ben Boina who was intractable in his goals. The Comorian goalkeeper pulled out all the stops to postpone the deadline several times. First on a free kick from Hakimi (76th), before making a triple save on his line (77th). Guilty by conceding a penalty on Aboukhlal, he made up for it by taking out En Nesyri’s attempt and keeping his team in the game (83rd).

But by dint of pushing, Morocco finally took shelter thanks to Aboukhlal (89th). Liberating goal, validated after video assistance, synonymous with guaranteed qualification for the 8th finals. With six points on the clock, Vahid Halilhodzic and his men are solid leaders of Group C and can see it coming. It is in all serenity that they will be able to follow the other poster of the hen which will oppose Ghana to Gabon
