The Algerian authorities announced on Thursday the strengthening of health measures at border crossing points, to prevent the spread of bedbugs, which have invaded French cities in recent days.
This is what emerges from a press release from the Algerian Ministry of Health published on its Facebook page.
The ministry emphasized “the application of international health regulations and the tasks of border health control centers, in anticipation of the spread of any epidemiological developments or other damage.”
“The Ministry of Health, in coordination with various competent authorities, has decided to activate the health vigilance system by publishing a memorandum which includes a set of preventive measures that must be adopted to avoid the spread of any epidemic development or any other damage resulting from harmful insects such as bedbugs”, we read from the same source.
The ministry also explained that the activation of the health system to deal with anything that could constitute a threat to public health is done at the crossing points.
According to the press release, the procedures include “sanitary surveillance of planes, ships and means of land transport, and their disinfection in the event of a threat noted by employees of border health control centers.”
The vigilance system will make it possible to “strengthen epidemiological surveillance, maintain and regularly monitor the cleanliness of airports and ports, and control the disinfection of baggage and goods likely to contain harmful insects”.
The ministry emphasized “the provision of health information to travelers as well as maintaining close and continuous cooperation and coordination with all sectors operating at air, sea and land points of entry.”
Bedbugs have invaded French cities, raising concern among Algerians about the possibility of transmission of these insects, given the intense traffic between the two countries.
Two days ago, Algerian Health Minister Abdelhak Sayhi denied the presence of bedbugs in Algeria, indicating that their spread is “mainly linked to hygiene.”
