At least 40 coronavirus mutations detected in Tunisia

While Tunisia has not yet detected the strain of the coronavirus from the United Kingdom, 40 “normal” mutations, which are not very virulent “have been identified in Tunisia, indicates Nissaf Ben Alaya, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health.

At least 40 coronavirus mutations have been recorded in Tunisia since the start of the pandemic, Ministry of Health spokesperson Nissaf Ben Alaya said.

However, “these are normal strains that are not very virulent like the one discovered in Great Britain,” she said on December 24 at Mosaic FM.
As of yet, this mutation has not been reported in Tunisia.

Returning to the health situation in the country, she said that the drop in the number of infections was followed by a further increase linked to the lack of necessary compliance with health measures and a cold snap.

Recent changes
New strains of SARS-CoV-2 have appeared around the world. A potentially more contagious mutation of up to 70% has been detected in the UK, sparking panic in several countries. The variant strain has also been reported in Italy, Denmark, the Netherlands, but also in Australia, Israel and Singapore.

Later, genomics researchers in South Africa recorded another variant dubbed 501.V2.

Finally, Nigeria, Africaโ€™s most populous country, has discovered yet another strain, which appears to be different from the British and South African mutation. As of yet, there is no evidence that this variant is likely to spread at the same speed as the British one.
