Journalist, poet, and publisher Lazhari Later spent the night from Sunday to Monday at the central police station in Algiers, his son said, after alerting him to his arrest.
It was around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 20 that “two plainclothes agents showed up at Lazhari Labter’s home,” wrote Amine (his son) on his Facebook page, adding that he did not know the content of the summons in the possession of the two agents.
30 minutes later, around 7:00 p.m., the journalist was able to reach his wife. “He was confident, he told her that he would call her back,” explains the same source. But, “since, no news, his phone rings in the void”, adds Amine Labter who at the beginning did not know where his father had been taken, “nor by what authority, nor for what reason he is retained”.
It is only later in the evening, around midnight that the family is informed of the place where he is being held. “Lazhari is at the central police station, he will spend the night there,” said his son.
