Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani called on Europeans to invest more in Tunisia to help it “put an end to irregular migration”.
Tajani made the statement today, Thursday August 31, 2023, on the sidelines of the Informal Summit of European Union (EU) Foreign Ministers in Toledo, Spain.
“It is important to work with Tunisia: obviously for Italy, the memorandum was a good choice on the part of Europe. The meeting between President Saïed, (Meloni, von der Leyen and Rutte was very positive. We must work for the stability of Tunisia,” Tajani said, referring to the memorandum of understanding signed last July between Tunisia and the European Union (EU).
The head of Italian diplomacy added: “We need to invest more money to implement the agreement to end irregular migration. The Tunisian police are working well at the moment but we are also ready to do more. We have also offered Italian boats to the Tunisian police” .
