An Israeli Competitor of Glovo Attacks Morocco

The food delivery app โ€œHaatโ€ (โ€œbringโ€ in Arabic), which until now operates exclusively in the Arab and mostly rural sector in Israel, plans to offer its services abroad, including in Morocco.

The platform will offer its food delivery services to the city of Karmiel in northern Israel by mid-August, and eventually plans to serve residents of Morocco and the West Bank, Ynet reports. โ€œWe will reach thousands of communities in the years to comeโ€ฆ Today we are an Israeli company, but we will become an international company,โ€ said Dr. Hassan Abbasi, co-founder and CEO of Haat.

With around 100 employees, the company offers customer service in Hebrew, Arabic and English, and soon in French. According to VP of Sales and Marketing, Amir Baballah, Haat is “an app that focuses on the periphery and wants to reach cities and communities without infrastructure.” It was launched in early 2020, before the start of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Hassan Abbasi, a former Intel and Google employee, explains where he got the idea to launch this platform. Returning from Haifa with his wife to his hometown of Umm al-Fahm, he could hardly order food. โ€œIt was in 2017-2018. About 150 restaurants for 180,000 inhabitants and not a single online menu. I couldn’t pay with my credit card. โ€œ, he explains. And to add: โ€œI realized that something was missing here. Women work and cook less, so it’s essentialโ€.
