According to the President of the National People’s Assembly (APN), Algeria’s membership in Parlatino serves as a bridge between Africa, the Arab world, and Latin America.
This was stated on Thursday by Brahim Boughali, the President of the National People’s Assembly, in Panama City, the capital of Panama. “Algeria’s recent membership in Parlatino will establish an extended bridge between Africa and the Arab world on one side, and Latin America on the other,” as per an APN press release published on Thursday.
Brahim Boughali highlighted Algeria’s contribution through its recent membership in Parlatino, noting that it would be an asset due to its significant role, particularly under its current presidency of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (UIPA), and considering its influence within the Pan-African Parliament and the African Parliamentary Union.
During his speech at the opening of the 38th ordinary session of Parlatino, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of its founding, Boughali stated that the APN would ensure its contribution is effective and of high quality, given its rich experience and notable presence both internationally and regionally.
He recalled the shared principles and interests between Algeria and the countries of this parliament, such as:
- Protecting democracy,
- Non-interference in the internal affairs of states,
- Condemnation of the use of force and weapons during conflicts,
- Defending the right of peoples to self-determination,
- Combating terrorism,
- Addressing climate change and renewable energy issues,
- Women’s empowerment, and other contemporary issues.
In this context, Boughali announced that the APN plans to host a parliamentary event in collaboration with the Parlatino Parliament in the near future. The aim is to foster closer ties and address issues of mutual interest, particularly regarding current political and economic challenges in a rapidly changing environment.
The President of the APN also affirmed that Algeria’s stance in support of all peoples fighting for their freedom remains firm and unshakeable, convinced that peace, respect for international law, and international legality are essential for ensuring a dignified life for all peoples.
On this occasion, he emphasized that parliamentarians are called upon to support efforts to end the historical injustice inflicted on the Palestinian people, recalling President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s repeated statements that Algeria will never cease to defend the rights of oppressed peoples, advocate just causes, and will always strive, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, to be the voice of truth and a staunch defender of international legality and the rights of peoples.
