Algerians stranded at Paris airport: The Algerian Embassy explains

The Algerian diplomatic representation in France explains the case of the 27 Algerians stranded since the end of February in the international zone of Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport (France).

In a statement released on Thursday, the Algerian Embassy in Paris provided some clarifications on this affair, which has been going on for several weeks.

Indeed, according to the press release, Algerian nationals stranded at CDG airport were informed of the cancellation of their Paris-Algiers tickets, but despite the cancellation, they moved to Paris on February 27 and 28 in order to ” try to enter the country on the eve of the border closure, on March 1.

The 27 people concerned, including children, were individually seized by the Air Algรฉrie agency in London, informing them of the cancellation of their Paris-Algiers plane ticket. Despite this notification, they insisted on moving to Paris on February 27 and 28 (…) Despite our proposals guaranteeing them a return to their places of residence, namely Great Britain, those concerned chose to remain in the zone international โ€, read the press release.

In the same statement, the Algerian embassy said that no exemption would be granted for the repatriation of these Algerians stranded in the international zone since February 28.

โ€œSince March 2, the Algerian consul in Crรฉteil has met several times with certain members of this group to discuss their situation and the need to return to Great Britain, pending the reopening of borders (โ€ฆ). decision to close the borders until further notice was recorded in the Council of Ministers of February 28, 2021. No exemption can be granted โ€, added the same source.
