Algeria-United States: 30% Customs Duties on Algerian Exports

New U.S. Customs Tariffs Target Algerian Exports

On July 9, 2025, the United States announced a new list of six countries facing customs duties, with Algeria included, according to Truth Social. Algerian products will face a 30% tariff, unchanged from previous announcements. Products from Libya and Iraq, as well as Moldova and Brunei, will be taxed at 25%, while Philippine products will face a 20% surcharge.  The U.S. began sending letters on July 7 to countries with a trade surplus, including Algeria. Originally set for July 9, the implementation of these tariffs has been postponed to August 1 by decree. The letters also warn that retaliatory measures by affected countries will lead to further tariff increases.Affected Algerian Products

The 30% tariff applies to hydrocarbons (crude or refined), wrought iron bars, nitrogen fertilizers, and cement. In 2024, trade between Algeria and the U.S. reached $3.5 billion. U.S. exports to Algeria totaled $1 billion, down 15.5% from the previous year, while U.S. imports from Algeria amounted to $2.5 billion, a decrease of 18.7%, resulting in a trade balance favoring Algeria. In 2023, the U.S. was Algeria’s fifth-largest customer in the hydrocarbon sector.Search-friendly keywords: Algeria U.S. trade tariffs 2025, Algerian exports customs duties, U.S. tariffs on hydrocarbons, Algeria trade balance, 30% tariff Algerian products, U.S. import export Algeria.
